Moscow City Photo – what is it? Street photography or cityscape, or maybe something else?
Let's take an example to understand winter walk through Moscow. It seems to me, that it will be easier to understand, the difference between urban photography from the street .... Although, in fact there is no difference, Street and just a photo is part of a larger whole – City Photo. Just so with a capital letter.
We begin with a series of shots of the city at a walk around Moscow. Moscow general photogenic city and the capital itself, and its inhabitants, and guests can be photographed endlessly, and every time you shoot something new, something, which we have not seen before.
so, Urban Photo or City photo – definition:
City Photo – is a genre of photography, the object of which is the city, integrally. City Photo includes three directions – street photography, architectural photography and urban landscape. In urban people pictures, Architecture and urban landscape may play an independent role and is central to the plot, but may be members of equivalent composition.
I.e, City Photo – This report on the entire city and all its contents, including animate and inanimate objects.
Defining the city my photos, and the accuracy of his, I can not vouch, but I think I still captures the essence of urban photos. Especially, it's not that hard to do – Mix of people, houses, streets and animals.
Well, the theory seem to have committed, and now move on to practice. Just make a reservation, I did not choose any special place in Moscow, but simply to illustrate the article went on Taganka simply because, that had long been walking in the neighborhood. Did it intentionally, to show – urban photography genre is versatile and suitable for almost any city or district. Never mind, where you live – in Moscow, in Saratov, Kolomna or Engels – City photographer always find a plot for your images.
Another digression:
City Photo – it is an urban chronicle, and urban photographers do not just press the shutter release – they create this chronicle. Especially valuable and urban photos, you imprinted city to a certain point in time, and these moments will never be repeated.
It is worth remembering about this and if you decide to become a city still photographer, try not to miss it, that may disappear. After all, perhaps your pictures will be the only reminder of the place and time..
While walking around Moscow, I used a Nikon D750 camera and an AF-S NIKKOR lens 50 mm f 1,8G
Why this kit, I chose to walk? First Nikon D750 versatile reportage camera, which is also suitable for outdoor shooting, and landscape, and the main it is easy and surprisingly comfortable ergonomics. Lens 50 mm like and not very suitable for landscape photography, but this is a universal lens and I decided to experiment and shoot urban photography with it. Yes, there is quite difficult with a choice of view when shooting landscapes, but still can shoot.
Winter photography of Moscow – walk from the center of Taganka
That ended the walk. I think, it is worth repeating, but from another metro station.
